Thomas G. Weiss’ Latest Two Pieces on the UN

Director Emeritus Thomas G. Weiss published two pieces on the UN on September 19, 2016.

The first piece is titled, “70 and Counting, Whither the UN?,” in Democracy. He concludes the article with the following words:

A world without the UN is neither plausible nor desirable. A world with a more creative and effective UN, however, is both.

January 1, 2017: Let the Honeymoon for UN Reform Begin,” and appears in International Peace Institute. Weiss writes:

Ban Ki-moon’s replacement must appreciate the flaws in the structure and staffing of the dysfunctional UN family but have the knowledge, determination, and—dare we say—charisma and guts to undertake the Sisyphean task of reforming them.
