Margaret Bruce (1918 - ) entered UN service in November 1945 in London and continued when the secretariat first moved to Hunter College in the Bronx. She worked on human rights and women’s issues (including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with Eleanor Roosevelt). She rose from junior human rights officer to assistant director of the Human Rights Division, later becoming deputy director, Centre for Social Development and Humanitarian Affairs. She retired in 1977. She was awarded an OBE in 1979. She was born in England and educated at Cambridge University, and currently holds joint U.S.-UK citizenship.
