Boutros Boutros-Ghali (1922-
) was the sixth UN Secretary-General (1992-96). He was professor
of international law and international relations at Cairo
University (1949-77); and he was a member of parliament
and minister of state for foreign affairs and deputy prime
minister for foreign affairs (1977-91). After one term at
the UN, he became secretary-general of the International
Organisation of the Francophonie (1997-2002). He is currently
president of the International Panel on Democracy and Development
at UNESCO and president of the Egyptian National Commission
for Human Rights. He was born in Egypt and educated at Cairo
University and the Sorbonne, Paris. His many publications
include The Papers of United Nations Secretary-General,
Boutros Boutros-Ghali and Unvanquished: A US-UN Saga.
