Margaret C. Snyder (1929-) was founding director of UNIFEM (1978-89), after being regional advisor for the Economic Commission for Africa, co-founder of its African Centre for Women, and head of its Voluntary Agencies Bureau (1971-78). She was an international election observer in Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania and continues as senior advisor to the UN and UNDP and on UNIFEM's Assessment Advisory Committee. She sits on several university and NGO boards. Born in the United States, she was educated at the College of New Rochelle, Catholic University of America, and University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Her most recent books include Transforming Development (A history of UNIFEM) and Women in African Economies: From Burning Sun to Boardroom.
