Alister McIntyre (1930- ) worked in UNCTAD from 1977 to 1987, first as director of the Commodities Division and then as deputy secretary-general and officer-in-charge. After this, he joined the secretariat of the Caribbean Community, was assistant secretary-general in the UN’s Office of the director general for Development and Economic Co-operation, secretary-general of CARICOM. Currently, he is the chief technical advisor for the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery in Jamaica and personal representative of the UN Secretary-General on the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy. He has been chairman of the Commonwealth Group of Experts on the New International Economic Order, International Forum on Debt and Development, and the IDB/OAS Independent Group of Experts on Smaller Economies and Western Hemispheric Integration. He was born in Grenada and was educated at the London School of Economics and Oxford University.
