Lawrence R. Klein (1920- ) won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1980 for the creation of econometric models and their application to the analysis of economic fluctuations and economic policies. He played a major role in establishing the LINK econometric model, which is used by the UN for global forecasting. He has also been a consultant to UN agencies, including UNCTAD and UNIDO and to the UN on the economics of disarmament and development. Currently he is Benjamin Franklin professor of economics (emeritus) at the University of Pennsylvania and for the last 20 years has been a director of W. P. Carey & Co. He was born in the U.S. and educated at the University of California, Berkeley and MIT. His many publications include Econometric Modeling of China; Principles of Macroeconometric Modeling; and Arms Reduction: Economic Implications in the Post-Cold War Era.
