Jack I. Stone (1920- ) was UNCTAD's director of research (1970-77) and of its Special Program on Least Developed, Land-Locked and Island Developing Countries (1977-81). Since 1981, his consultancies include economic research for UNDP, the Eastern Caribbean, UN, UNCTAD and the World Bank. He was head of financial policies in OECD's Development Assistance Department (1967-70), and a senior economist for USAID (1963-66). Earlier, he was an analyst with the postwar military government in Germany and the Marshall Plan, Fomento Economico in Puerto Rico, and deputy director for the Upper Midwest Economic Study at the University of Minnesota. He was born in the U.S. and educated at the University of Chicago and Harvard University.
