Mihaly Simai (1930- )
served in various UN capacities for over three decades.
In 1959-60 he was with the ECE and in 1964-68 with the Centre
for Development Planning, Projection, and Policies, and
in 1993-95 he was director of the UNU’s World Institute
for Development Economics Research. He has also served as
a member and officer of various UN groups and bodies, including
the UN Committee on Public Administration, UNICEF Executive
Board, Committee on Development Planning, and member of
Advisory Board of the UN Staff College. He has been a consultant
for UNCTC, UNIDO, UNCTAD, UNDP, and UNITAR. He is currently
professor at the Institute for World Economics of the Hungarian
Academy of Sciences and the Budapest University of Economics.
He is also president of the Hungarian UN Association and
the Hungarian National Committee of UNICEF, and honorary
president of the World Federation of UN Associations. He
was born in Hungary and educated at the Budapest University
of Economics (the former Karl Marx University).
