Paulo Sergio Pinheiro
(1944- ) is independent expert for the UN Secretary-General´s
study on violence against children and special rapporteur
on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, and previously
in Burundi. He is a member of the UN Sub-Commission for
the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and the Interamerican
Commission on Human Rights. He was secretary of state for
human rights in Brazil (2001-2), where he had taught and
conducted research at the University of São Paulo;
he also has taught at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences
Sociales, Paris and at Notre Dame, Oxford, and Brown Universities.
He was born in Brazil and educated at the Catholic University,
Rio de Janeiro, and at the University of Paris. His publications
include Brasil: Um Século de Transformaçôes;
Brazil and the International Human Rights System;
and The (Un) Rule of Law and the Underprivileged in Latin
America.
