Become a visiting scholar at The Ralph Bunche Institute
The Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies (RBIIS) invites scholars focused on international relations, global studies, and the United Nations to apply to be Visiting Research Scholars at the RBIIS.
Visiting Research Scholars will be provided with the following:
- An institutional affiliation and J-1 visa support
- Access to the Mina Rees Library, including use of CUNY libraries and inter-library loans for materials. Visiting scholars can also apply to be New York Public Library Scholars, granting access to the Manhattan Research Library (MaRLi) network.
- Use of a desk within the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies, when available.
Unfortunately, the RBIIS is unable to provide funding for Visiting Scholars, but will gladly provide any necessary documentation to support Scholars’ efforts to secure other support for their stay in New York.
During their time at the RBIIS, we will expect Visiting Research Scholars to:
- Present at a public workshop, talk or other event (including a podcast) about your research
- Participate in other workshops, events and talks hosted at the Graduate Center
- Reach out and/or make yourself available to CUNY faculty, staff and students.
In order to apply to be a Visiting Research Scholar, please send the following documents:
- Statement about your planned research (1-2 pages)
- Statement about why the Graduate Center is well placed to help with that research (one paragraph)
- Your curriculum vitae
- A reference from a professional colleague
- If a doctoral student, a reference from your advisor
While applications are accepted on a rolling basis, please make sure you send your documents at least six (6) weeks before your planned arrival.
Send your application to rbinstitute@gc.cuny.edu and ekaretny@gc.cuny.edu.
