The Centenary Commemoration

The Ralph Bunche Centenary Commemoration Committee has planned a year-long 100th anniversary program to celebrate, reevaluate, and build upon our inheritance from a great American and a great international civil servant, Dr. Ralph Johnson Bunche.

The centenary does not only pay respect to what Ralph Bunche accomplished, it also underscores the relevance of his legacy for today and tomorrow. It hopes to translate the legend, which is a gift from the past, into a legacy, which is an instrument for a better future for humankind.

A number of eminent personalities and leaders from the academy, government, business and industry, several distinguished educational institutions, professional societies and public policy organizations have affiliated themselves with the centenary commemoration and are undertaking appropriate commemorative events nationally and internationally.

The centenary secretariat, which is located at The Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies, CUNY Graduate Center acts as the catalyst and motivator for activities which grant due recognition to the extraordinary span of Dr. Bunche's multiple careers as scholar, civil rights activist, international civil servant, champion of decolonization, and above all, practitioner of United Nations mediation and an architect of United Nations Peacekeeping operations.
